Karen Emms, Soprano, Oboist, Pianist
22 year old Karen Emms is a bubbly sociable young lady with a respectful nature. In 2006 Karen passed the National Diploma in Music at the Colchester Institute with a Triple Distinction. Karen then continued her studies at Colchester Institute and in 2009 completed the BA (Hons) Music course, resulting in an upper second music degree. During this time Karen also studied the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music syllabus with her music tutors. She has now achieved grade 8 in singing, oboe, piano and grade 7 music theory.
During the last year of her degree Karen led the ensemble The Perfect Fourths Woodwind Quartet who have played for various venues including Canary Wharf and formed her own piano trio. Since that Karen has worked with other musicians/singers who also obtained music degrees and together they formed the group Harmonize.
Karen is a reliable hard working individual who is always open to new ideas and opportunities, such as playing the Coventry Cathedral organ, being an extra in a film, playing the principal girl in the Wivenhoe Pantomime and dancing for the mayors charity show.
Karen loves dancing and has been involved with ballet, tap, disco, modern and jazz over the years. Karen also sings in St Mary's choir/ Singers, has played oboe in local orchestras such as The Colne Philharmonic Orchestra and taken part in Wivenhoe Gilbert and Sullivan productions .
Karen's ambition is to be a performer, instrumental/music teacher, play in an orchestra and meet lots of interesting people whilst learning more about The Music Industry.
